LaBarge

The DeVeny Family is saddened to announce the passing of their brother, father, grandfather, uncle, friend, and loved one. Delmar Clyde DeVeny, of Labarge Wyoming passed away peacefully at home on the morning of November 17, 2024 at eighty-nine years of age.

He leaves behind his adopted granddaughter Reva DeVeny(LaBarge), and daughter in law Jannette DeVeny(Freedom), grandchildren JD DeVeny(Turnerville), Jennifer Jensen(Afton), Justin DeVeny(Etna), Jameson DeVeny(Thayne), with the next generation having seven great grandchildren, and will be dearly missed by his many nieces and nephews.

Those who passed before who now get to welcome him to his eternal home include his parents Charles&Bonnie DeVeny, his beloved wife of 58 years Inez Deveny, all four of his children Wanda, Dean, Wayne, Peggy, one great grandchild, his siblings Dan DeVeny, RenaMae Downer, Eloise Graves, Robert(Bob) DeVeny, Sarah(Sally) Rogers.

Born the youngest child to Charles and Bonnie in 1935 in Clifty Arkansas, his youth was spent with family and helping on the family farm. He completed his 8th grade education and decided to pursue a life of a cowboy. At the age of 14 he drove himself crosscountry from Arkansas up to Wyoming to be with his brothers and learn the workings of cattle ranches.

Delmar enjoyed exploring the mountains whether it be horseback or driving up an old two track. Within a few years, and after a very lucky Chugwater Wyoming dance he met the love of his life Inez Vandiver. As she was still in highschool Delmar was instructed to enlist now and avoid the draft later and gain her hand after she graduated. He served his country in the US Army during the German transition from combat to peacetime occupation, later known as the start of the Cold War. Returning home he swiftly married the girl of his dreams and started a family in Wheatland, Wyoming, bringing four children into the world together. They had always had a deep love of music and a talent for country. Inez played piano, drums, bass guitar with Delmar on guitar, violin, banjo, mandolin, harmonica, and vocals. Quite the country duo, they even won many of the contests they entered.

Working for Woody and Glyda May was a true highlight of his life. He was the head ranch hand, and had his own cattle branded with his DV grazing up on the marble quarry. Later he would move to the other side of the state and try out Jackson hole. The Snake River Ranch was his next challenge and he took it in stride while also taking in every chance he could to go fishing or hunting. He enjoyed coming into town and competing at the local rodeos, proudly wearing his prize buckles and jackets.

After this period, he headed back to Wheatland to start his career with the Wyoming Highway Department and also be an active member of the National Guard. He earned the rank of Staff Sergeant while working full time for Wydot and having a small homestead outside of Wheatland.

Accepting a promotion he moved lastly to Labarge, the community that became his family. Shortly after moving he took on what some would say his great challenge and adopted his granddaughter, taking on the job of a father over a decade after his last child had graduated.

He kept horses around as pets and fun trail rides, for all the fond memories of chasing cattle through willows while cussing out the wind. The Green River, and up rock creek became his new solitude as he’d happily spend hours casting along the bank enjoying the peaceful sounds.

With the sharp decline of his wife due to dementia, the heartbreaking decision to put her into a care facility tore at him and he would visit her constantly. During these tough years he reached out to his community more, who welcomed him with loving arms. He happily frequented the La Barge and Big Piney senior centers. After his own fight against dementia, Reva moved back in to help. Even as his mind was slipping away the desire to stay happy and chipper was there, Once a Stubborn Cowboy, ALWAYS a Stubborn Cowboy.
