Donna Lee Schaffer

Donna Lee Schaffer, age 85, passed away peacefully in her home in LaBarge on October 21st, 2015. 
Born Donna Lee Cunningham on April 10th, 1930 in Erie, KS to parents Archie Lee and Ethel Cunningham, Donna gave birth to her only son when she was just 15 years young.  She married the love of her life, Donald Lewis Schaffer, in 1982.  She lost Donald to a unfortunate heavy equipment accident while he worked for Lincoln County in 1986 and she never remarried.

Donna was a strong, independent small business entrepreneur and sole owner of the Halo Bar in LaBarge.  With not even a high school diploma she worked diligently throughout her life and became a very successful business woman in her long staying home of LaBarge.  Donna was also a longtime resident of Kemmerer and Rock Springs.  Growing up for some time in a primitive coal mine camp outside Rock Springs, Donna understood the hardships of the oil field and devoted her life to helping those who worked in the oil field service.  Having a big heart and wonderful giving spirit, Donna would often serve hot meals for the many workers of the oil field after work hours and at no cost.  She was always there to help anyone in need, gaining her the nickname 'Aunt Donna'.  She was a lifetime member of the American Legion Woman's Auxillary, spouse member of The Fraternity of Eagles and often hosted meetings for the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW).  She also enjoyed hosting hunters which formed a lifetime of friendships that expanded beyond the borders of Wyoming.   

Donna loved fishing and hung her fishing gear behind her home's back door ready for a moments notice.  Oftentimes she, along with family or friends, could often be found on the banks of the Green River early mornings before business hours.  Donna retired and closed the Halo Bar in 2007 after almost 50 years in business.  She lived out the rest of her life comfortably in her home of LaBarge.

Donna L Schaffer is survived by her Son, Leonard Lee Uram; loving Grandson, Lukas RB Robishaw of Seattle, WA; Granddaughter, Erika D Robishaw of Meriden, CT; she is also survived by her two great-grandchildren, Bailey and Cole.  She is preceded in death by her husband, Donald Lewis Schaffer.

Donna L Schaffer's memorial service will take place on Saturday, November 7th, 11:00AM at Ball Family Chapel in Kemmerer.  All are welcome to attend and celebrate Donna's life.
