LaBarge

James “Jim” Peter Schmid, 72, of La Barge, Wyoming, passed away on March 18, 2026.

Jim was born on September 17, 1953, in Laurium, Michigan, to John and Elaine Schmid. He spent his early years in Michigan before the family moved to Daniel, Wyoming, in 1968. Wyoming quickly became home, and Jim built a life rooted in hard work, community, and family.

He worked in the oil and gas industry for many years, dedicating himself to the field until his retirement in 2013. Jim also served the town of La Barge as a volunteer fireman for 30 years. His commitment to service and his active involvement in the community were a defining part of who he was.

On September 9, 1972, Jim married the love of his life, Nancy J. Schmid, and together they raised three daughters: Tina (Brownie) Brown, Theresa Schmid, and Tara (Heath) Eddins. Jim was a proud grandfather to Colter Watterson, Taylor (Banning) Schoonhoven, Dalton Bell, Brian (Cody) Brown, and Herschel Eddins, and a great‑grandfather to Dawson and Patricia Jane Schoonhoven, and Stoney and Wacey Brown.

Jim is survived by his siblings Dan (Nancy) Schmid, Diane Sakai, Dave (Joy) Schmid, Darlene James, Mike (Pam) Schmid, and Pat (Heather) Schmid, as well as numerous nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Elaine Schmid, and his grandson, Quinten Long, and brothers, Jack and Don Schmid and a sister, Betty Jakolla

Graveside services will be held on March 27th at 1:00 PM at the Viola Cemetery, followed by a celebration of life at the La Barge Recreation Building on Oak Street (the large blue building).

Jim will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
