Jill Stout

May 30, 1966 — April 19, 2026

Evanston

Jill (Brown) Stout died on Sunday April 19, 2026. Jill passed quietly surrounded by family following a short fight from cancer treatment complications.

On May 30, 1966, Phil and Shirley Brown welcomed child number thirteen and named her Jill. She was born in Mesa, Arizona, and grew up on a small farm with a large Victorian house. Two more sisters were added in the coming years to bring the number of children to fifteen. Jill and her younger sisters Jackie and Jody were known as the “three little girls” throughout their life and maintained a special bond from childhood to this day.

Jill attended Mesa Mountain View High School and graduated with high grades in 1984. Following high school, Jill was the first in her family to attend college out side of Arizona. She attended Rick’s College in Rexburg, Idaho, now called BYU-Idaho.

She served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Ohio, Akron Mission in August of 1987. She was part of the first sister missionary companionship to be called as tour guide at the  Newel K. Whitney store in the historic Kirtland, Ohio.  She also proselyted when not scheduled to conduct tours. She first met an Elder Stout in a mission meeting. He later wrote to her when he went home in October of 1988. They were married on May 19, 1989 in the Mesa, Arizona Temple.

The couple were blessed with five children. Jacquelyn, Mariah, Megan, Tyler and Briley. A better or more loved mother could not be found.

Jill obtained her nursing degree after helping her husband through law school. They both knew she would have been a much better attorney than he. She instead was a labor and delivery nurse, then became the school nurse for Aspen Elementary and Uinta Meadows Elementary in Evanston, Wyoming for nearly 22 years. Jill sincerely loved people, and had a great capacity to show that love in word and deed. Jill loved the children she cared for and the staff she worked with. Jill loved her friends and family. Jill struggled each year working out of the home, torn between having more time to be home caring for her family, and being at school caring for those students and families she served as a nurse.

Jill was extremely talented in many areas. She was happy when she was able to help friends or family with her talents. She was often called to help compose important letters. She would drive across the country to help decorate for special occasions or to help as people moved into a new home. She helped organize offices and classrooms. She was an excellent typist (reaching 180 WPM on an IBM electric typewriter). She helped her siblings with papers using her writing and typing skills. This continued as she helped her husband throughout his schooling the same ways.

Jill was also an excellent seamstress. She made wonderful Halloween costumes for her children and others. She was asked by many to make a blessing gown or suit for infants. At times by using left over fabric from a wedding dress. She made white baptism dresses for children and grandchildren. And she was the go-to seamstress to hem dresses and pants for special occasions.

Jill is survived by her eternal husband, E. Dean Stout, her five children Jacquelyn (Brad) Smith, Mariah Stout, Megan Stout, Tyler (Bekka) Stout, and Briley (Braxtin) Hughes. Also her ten grandchildren Liam, Amelia, Evelyn, Dean & Jack Smith; Thayne, Ruben and June Stout; Elleana and Cayden Hughes. She is also survived by 10 siblings, including two of the “three little girls.”

Jill is proceeded in Death by her father Phillip Brown, her mother Shirley (Spurling) Brown, her sisters Judy Lisonbee and Julie Brown, her brothers Flint Brown and Carl Brown. She was also proceeded in death by her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Estes and Jackie Stout who loved her like a daughter.
