In Loving Memory of Lonnie P. Harwood
Lonnie P. Harwood, born April 10, 1947, passed away on October 24, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of faith, kindness, generosity, and love for his family.
Lonnie’s journey brought him to Cheyenne, Wyoming, where he was adopted by Gladys and Luther Harwood. It was there that his life continued to unfold, shaping the man who would become a devoted family member, a proud veteran, and a friend to many. Lonnie proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam conflict. Following his military service, he built a career with Chevron Oil, from which he eventually retired. Retirement, however, did not mean slowing down. Later in life, he took a job at the landfill, which he often said was his favorite job. His appreciation for the simple joys of life and his willingness to find fulfillment in unexpected places were a reflection of his humble and genuine nature. Lonnie had a love for adventure and staying active. He participated in the Senior Olympics, traveling to various places to compete and enjoy the experience. He also enjoyed fishing, making memories through time spent outdoors. Whether traveling for competition, enjoying a day of fishing, or simply spending time with those around him, Lonnie found joy in the experiences life offered. Above all, Lonnie was a man of faith. His relationship with God remained an important part of his life, even until his final days, when he continued to write journal entries to God. His faith was more than something he believed; it was a part of who he was and how he lived. He will be remembered for the kindness he extended to others, his generous heart, and his willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He gave freely of himself and left a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to know him. Lonnie married the love of his life, Arlyce, on December 7, 1982. Though she preceded him in death, the love they shared remains part of the legacy he leaves behind. He is survived by his children, Stacy, Stuart, and Stephanie; his stepdaughters, Jody Bettinson, Jill (Fred) Coles, and Joel (Phillip) O’Driscoll; 15 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren, all of whom carry forward a part of his story and legacy. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Arlyce; parents, Luther and Gladys; his grandsons, Andrew and Justin; and his great-granddaughter, Renezmae.
Lonnie’s life was a testament to the importance of faith, family, hard work, and a generous spirit. Though he will be deeply missed, his memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, in the lessons he taught through the way he lived, and in the countless acts of kindness he extended throughout his life. His legacy is one of love freely given, faith held close, and a life that made a difference to others. As his family says goodbye, they can take comfort in knowing that the faith he carried throughout his life remained with him until the end. His earthly journey is complete, but the love he shared and the memories he leaves behind will continue for generations to come.
Our family would like to send a special thank you to his hospice nurse Emily for her love and kindness.
