With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Lorna Gunter, 91 on August 6, 2025. Lorna was born in Davenport, Nebraska to John and Bernice Wood. Lorna graduated from Kemmerer High School and began her career as a switch board operator. She married Roger Gunter and they were married for 72 years.
She had three chilldren and was a stay at home mom for several years, heavily involved in their school activities and group leadership roles. She embarked on a career as a baker for the local schools, a job she thoroughly loved. Her cinnamon rolls, homemade rolls, short bread cookies and chocolate cake were crowd favorites.
Those who met Lorna instantly fell in love, like talking to pure sunshine. She just radiated warmth and love with her beautiful smile and amazing personality. She exemplified kindness and compassion to all she met. After she retired, she spent time with her grandchildren helping them with sports, piano lessons and activities. She enjoyed camping, hunting and traveling with her daughter creating memorable and fun adventures well into her 80's. She faced a number of health difficulties in her later years but always kept a positive attitude that all would be better and her strong faith sustained her.
Lorna leaves behind her husband Roger and two daughters, Debbie Harker and Margie Barker; grandchildren, Heather Hardy, Jason Harker, Mary Bennett, Laurie Barker, Jolene Mitchell, 17 great and great great grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews. Lorna was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Jackie, a son, Rodney and son-in laws, Ted and Tom.
Rosary will be recited on Thursday, August 14, 2025 at 10:30 am at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Kemmerer and Mass will follow the rosary at 11:00 am also at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Kemmerer. Inurnment will follow the services at the South Lincoln Cemetery in Kemmerer, WY.
