Shirley J. Townsend

Lander

Long time Lander/Hudson, WY area resident, Shirley Townsend passed away at her home in Portland, OR on March 24, 2024 after a series of strokes.  She will be cremated and a graveside service will take place in Mount Hope Cemetery in Lander, WY on June 1, 2024 at 11am to be followed by a reception at The Inn.

Shirley was born in Mills, Wyoming on May 23, 1941.  She grew up in a large family in the Casper Wyoming area and was a 1959 graduate of Natrona County High School.  She married the love of her life, Winfield “Windy” Townsend in 1963 and settled in Rawlins, WY after a brief time living in Denver, CO.  She moved with her family to Lander in 1973.  She worked as a secretary in the area including at the Lander Chamber of Commerce.  She was a librarian for many years at the Wyoming State Training School and retired from there in 2006.

She was involved in the auxiliaries of the V.F.W. and the American Legion.  She served on the Lander Pioneer Days committee and carried out volunteer work for the Wyoming Democratic Party.  She especially loved to spend time with her friends and family.  She was an avid reader and crocheter, and had a passion for crossword puzzles and the occasional trip to the casino especially with her sister Pat.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Winfield “Windy” Townsend, her parents Earl Sr. and Ada Jamerman Pomerenke, her brother Earl Jr. “Jay” Jamerman, her sister Patricia “Pat” Dixon, her niece Ellen Allington and her brother Billy Jamerman.  She is survived by her son Brad Townsend (Wayland) of Portland, OR, her brother Robert “Butch” Jammerman (Mary) of Sun City West, AZ, her sister Linda LaCroix (Robert) of Hansville, WA and her sister-in-law and best friend Wallace Jamerman of Riverton, WY.  She is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews.

Shirley's last words were, "I Love You".

For those wishing to attend the services, a luncheon will be provided at the conclusion of the graveside services, to be held at The Inn at 260 Grandview Drive in Lander, WY, and the family is requesting a RSVP to attend the luncheon.
