Sylvia Kalan

In the early morning hours on April 19, 2022 “The little birds sang as if it were the one day of summer in all the year”  and our loving, sweet, wife, mother, sister and friend passed away peacefully at the age of 98. She was born June 6, 1923 in Ogden, Utah to Louis and Louise Carley. Sylvia attended Weber County High School. In 1956 she married Frank J Kalan, moved to Kemmerer Wyoming and there she spent most of her married life until Frank passed away in 2006. Sylvia was a dedicated worker, took pride in the work she did, and worked hard all of her life, beginning with the task of grading papers in high school, and a secretary in the office at Pillsbury Flour Mill. Her favorite job besides being a home maker was a library worker at the Kemmerer City Library where she made life long friends. After Frank passed in 2006,  she lived in Kemmerer with her best friend, her pet bird, Buddy until 2015 and then moved to Legacy Assisted Living in Taylorsville, Utah to be closer to her son and brother.  Sylvia cherished the Sunday dinners with her son and daughter-in-law and loved the frequent visits from her brother Jim and his wife which usually involved laughing and reminiscing about their favorite childhood memories. She is survived by her son Lynn (Stacey) Kalan, West Jordan, UT, brother James (Lareen) Carley of South Jordan, UT. and numerous treasured nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Frank; parents, Louis and Louise Carley; brother, Vince Carley,

We will hold in our hearts forever the warmth of her smile and the love in her heart.

The family would like to express their sincerest gratitude to the angels from Inspiration Hospice, the entire staff at Legacy Assisted Living, and Margene from the LDS Relief Society for the loving care and kindness they provided.
